It Belongs in a Museum - 13 July
Hello Explorers,
Pennine Megagames invites you to the second UK run of It Belongs in a Museum! Join us at Leeds Gateway Church on Saturday July 13th for more excitement and adventure than you can crack a bullwhip at.
It Belongs in a Museum is set in the 1940s, and the expected gameplay is roleplaying, dice rolling, puzzling and mini game action!
The year is 1936. Tensions are rising in Europe as the threat of an increasingly fascist and aggressive German regime grows in power. World leaders have dismissed rumours about the obsession the regime holds with mysticism and mythology. Until now. Last month, documents were leaked indicating that the Ark of the Covenant was discovered and delivered to Berlin, only to have gone missing. The brave scholars believed to be responsible for the leak and sabotage of the project have disappeared. Officially, the documents are a hoax—there are no such mystic artifacts. However, alliances are starting to form in this looming conflict, and powers on both sides are suddenly very interested in the endeavours of explorers and museums alike to unearth such ancient curiosities. A new arms race is dawning, and it will be won by those who unearth the next Ark.
The themes in the game that will be conveyed are:
The Temptation of Power - Many of the relics found in the course of play have world changing effects with the potential to impact the narrative of the game. Taking the high road may well deprive you of fame and fortune but leave the world in a better place. Will you use the artifacts for personal gain or the good of the world?
Heroics - Stealing relics from the back of a moving train, defending your museum guests from an exhibit that calls itself Imhotep. There will be ample time for grand and small heroics. This is your story to tell.
The Pursuit of Knowledge - Despite a new era of science, the unearthly powers of the Ark cannot be explained, nor can our science protect people from its effects. Despite this, scholars desire to understand and harness the Ark and its abilities as a “a radio to God”, with little regard to the consequences of their actions. This ideal, the Pursuit of Knowledge at all costs and the slippery moral slope that it can lead to, is a core theme that you will explore during the game.
Wonder - It Belongs In A Museum is set in a world where suddenly the possibility of the supernatural, be it by magic or strange science, are within your reach.
Horror - Some things are meant to stay buried and only time will tell how you react to such discoveries!
Ambition - Each player in this game is striving in some way or another to be recognised as the best in their field. Sometimes the best way to the top is a knife in the back of the guy in front of you; other times it’s by taking the high road. What will you value more, ambition or morals?
Camaraderie - Despite the theme of ambition, players are a fraternity of sorts. Your displays of fellowship in the face of adversity (or lack of it!) are also moments we hope to see stories told about.
The casting questionnaire will go out shortly, so get yourselves a ticket to secure the roles you’re most interested in.
Tickets can be recovered from here but make sure you don’t set off any traps by picking yours up!
We look forward to seeing you there.
